Hi, I'm Julie

I am a London based actor and voiceover artist with a subtle RP accent and a youthful, articulate and gentle sounding voice.

I was born and raised in the UK capital, but am also very proud of my half New Zealand heritage and dual citizenship.

The Full Story!

I have almost 16 years of experience as a professional actor, although my love for performing goes back even further than that! As a relatively quiet and pensive child, I found acting, dancing and singing were thrilling ways to express myself. My first lead role was at age 13 in my local children's drama & singing group, the 'Crouch End Crickets'. The role was Juliet in a musical version of Romeo & Juliet which we performed at Jackson's Lane theatre in Highgate. I was very determined to be cast as her as the similarity between our names made me believe it was meant to be!

I continued in drama classes and dance lessons in ballet, jazz, contemporary and tap dance throughout my teens, as well as working hard and achieving high grades at school and training and competing as a runner. But films such as Billy Elliot and Titanic (as well as my favourite book series, Harry Potter, being adapted for the screen!) ignited the certainty in me that acting was the passion I wanted to pursue as my profession. Having always loved fantasy stories, and longing to be in them, seeing His Dark Materials at the National Theatre was also a huge inspiration.

I was delighted to secure a place to study on the 3 year Acting degree course at the prestigious Drama Centre London where I learnt to really push the boundaries of what and who I could act, and established a solid technique in character preparation, voice and movement.

Since graduating I have enjoyed a variety of acting work. Stage highlights include understudying and performing as two of the lead characters in The Railway Children at the King's Cross Theatre, playing Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream for Lazarus Theatre, touring Austria with Vienna's English Theatre and performing in Black Snow at the International Bulgakov festival in Kiev.

I have also enjoyed parts in TV & film, such as in The Private Lives of the Tudors for the Yesterday channel, A Moment's Hesitation and Death's Echo for Outer Dark Pictures, as well as commercials for Air New Zealand, Homebase and Tetley.

In recent years I have branched into voiceover work as well, which has felt like a natural progression, along with learning to master the new skills required, which has been very rewarding. Some jobs have included 'The Christchurch Murder' radio play for BBC radio 4, narrating the children's story 'New Southgate', audio description for Illuminate Freedom and recording excerpts of screenplays written by the author Peter Holland, adapted from his books 'Susan Bounty' and 'Barbary Slave'.
